Burn Wii Games To Secure Your Wii Collection

These days, everyone is getting in on the Wii action.  It's a unique gaming experience.  It can also be an expensive gaming experience, though.  After all, discs can get lost or damaged easily, especially when they're getting a lot of use.  So, let's look at how to burn Wii games that you already own, so that you'll have backup files to protect your investment.

Learn Your Laws:

First of all, you need to learn about the copyright laws where you live.  Each area has different rules about that sort of thing.  Typically, though, all you need is to make sure that you own the original disc.  You're usually allowed to have backup copies, since you own the game.  You just have to get rid of all backup copies, if you ever get rid of the originals.  That's why most people who burn Wii games use the copies and store the originals.  That way, there can be no question of ownership.

How To Copy:

You can't use the Wii itself to burn backups.  Instead, you need to use your PC or Mac computer to do it.  You'll also need a certain type of disc drive to accomplish your goal.  There's actually a series of drives that you could use.  It's called the LG-816 series and features models like the 8161b through the 8163b.  If you're confused, don't worry.  There's plenty of information about those drives to be found with some simple Internet research.

You'll next need to download special Wii game copying software.  That way, ripping Wii game files will work properly.  Standard CD or DVD copying software won't do the job, since Wii game discs have copyright protection files installed on them.

The Software:

You'll need two software programs to get your discs backed up.  They're called Raw Dump 2.0 and .net Framework 2.0. 

The Ripping:

You have to start by putting the game disc that you intend to rip into your DVD drive and booting up the Raw Dump 2.0 program.  Raw Dump will walk you through the process, but it's fairly simple.  You begin by clicking on the “Start Dump” button in the program.  Then, you can go out to lunch or do anything you like.  That's because, depending on your computer speed, the size of the Wii game files and other factors, ripping Wii game files can take several hours.

When the ripping is finally complete, you will have created an ISO of the disc.  An ISO is nothing more than an exact duplicate of the files on a given disc.  In this case, the ISO should have the same name as the game that you are backing up.

When it comes to how to burn Wii games, the finer points of the process are up to you.  The important thing is just that you go through the process.  It takes a bit of effort, but it can save you a lot of time, trouble and, most importantly, money later.
